Pilots Get Rare Chance To Land At Nation’s Busiest Airports

KC-10 does touch and go at LaGuardia

Ring this one up in the VERY rare category. LaGuardia is one of the busiest airports in the nation. There is no way under normal operations that an Air Force KC-10 could do a touch and go at New York’s LaGuardia International Airport. Yet the pandemic has led to some rare exceptions to the norm.

In this case, a giant KC-10 on a training mission decided to plan a touch and go at New York’s LaGuardia airport. LaGuardia can handle a DC-10 sized airplane but it is definitely a rare occurrence. With short runways, restrictions on stage length, and a typically very congested schedule, it is almost unprecedented to see a practice approach at the airfield. And yet, this mighty KC-10 (presumably from nearby McGuire AFB) barreled into the pattered, gently touched down, revved up the throttles and blasted off again with the Manhattan sky behind it. Just…wow! We’re pretty sure that all avgeeks are grateful to Arturas Kerelis for the upload on Youtube.
